The Morzine-Avoriaz MTB area

Halfway between Mont-Blanc and Lake Geneva, Morzine-Avoriaz is at the heart of the Portes du Soleil, one of the world’s biggest MTB areas. In the 90s, Morzine-Avoriaz was one of the first resorts to redesign the winter ski area into a MTB area for the summer (Le Pleney downhill MTB trail opened in 1996). In summer, there are more than 25 ski lifts that are equipped for transporting mountain bikes up to the peaks between France and Switzerland. Whiz down the trails, go exploring or ride at a leisurely pace…

All mountain bikers will find a trail or route that suits them. Morzine’s central location means that it’s possible to use the downhill trails to reach the village from most of the ski lifts across the Portes du Soleil. This destination is made for MTB with adapted facilities, specialist shops, a great atmosphere and plenty to do after mountain biking.

MTB in Morzine-Avoriaz is all about:
• Black, red, blue and green trails that can be reached via Le Pleney gondola lift and the Super Morzine gondola lift

•Specific markings on the trails and paths, so the MTB routes can be clearly identified

•New itineraries to improve links between Morzine-Avoriaz and Les Lindarets, in the Super Morzine, Zore and Col de Joux Verte sectors

•Morzine is in the ideal location at the heart of the MTB area and it is easy to reach Les Gets and Avoriaz. This location is perfect for a 100% MTB holiday in Morzine.

Since summer 2021, there has been a washing station for bikes near the Le Pleney gondola lift. It is free to use for holders of a MTB pass.  An added bonus!

Mountain biking trails for all levels of ability

The biggest MTB park in Europe with an endless variety of tracks and trails for downhill, freeride and cross-country biking, something for everyone and all levels of ability. The Portes du Soleil MTB trails that are marked in green are suitable for beginners and families, don’t generally include any particular difficulties, are well-maintained and offer a gentle slope.

For those who have more mountain biking experience and are looking to take on the best MTB trails in the French Alps, we recommend the blue, red or even black trails. You’ll have noticed that the MTB trails are colour-coded just like the ski slopes. Riders can therefore take on steep and technical downhill tracks that require excellent control, self-confidence and exemplary technical skills.

E-biking in the Portes du Soleil :

A pioneer in terms of electric mountain biking, The Portes du Soleil area offers 600 km of marked trails between France and Switzerland, including 37 trails designed for e-bikes. 

Excellent slopes are available for the descent, with the possibility of easy ascents thanks to the chairlifts, but the most athletic can explore the whole area by pedal power alone!  Before setting off on your adventure, make sure you download the electric MTB guide with details of 37 trails covering 300 km altogether. Since 2012, the 12 resorts of Abondance, Avoriaz 1800, Champéry, Châtel, La Chapelle d’Abondance, Les Gets, Montriond, Morgins, Morzine-Avoriaz, St Jean d’Aulps, Torgon and Val-d’Illiez Les Crosets Champoussin have been working to offer adapted routes without fear of the difference in altitude thanks to electric assistance.
